I’ve decided to modify my branding a bit and drop the ‘SEO’ from my logo and tagline. There really is quite a bit of negative sentiment out there for the term ‘SEO’ and even though all the advice I’ll give on the subject (which I’ll still continue to do) is based on best practice and conforms to Google’s guidelines for webmasters, marketing priniciples as they apply to blogging are the major focus of the site and I don’t want to detract from that in terms of my positioning.
All that aside, I’ve also created a few new social networking profiles this week… I still like Twitter the best, but I need to build my presence on others too. If you want to add me as a ‘friend’ on these sites, go right ahead (I’ll add most people back), my major aim for most social platforms is networking, so the more people in there the better.
I like the idea behind Friend Feed, it’s a great way to aggregate all the social channels of people you want to follow, but I haven’t really settled into a good way of sorting through this information yet.
I’ve tried Twhirl, Alertthingy and MySocial24×7 so far, but none of them really do exactly what I want… which is to isolate one person’s feed easily, and isolate specific channels easily. MySocial24×7 comes the closest, but I seem to be having problems running it in Firefox 3b5 under Vista (when I open a second firefox window) and I’m not too keen on the browser sidebar at any rate. It would also be really useful if you could collapse/expand all items (some that have heaps of comments take up nearly the whole window, which makes seeing everything else hard). Hopefully it won’t be too long before those needs are addressed - I think it’ll be a really useful service once I can aggregate social media that way.

I don’t plan on using this much, so if you add me as a friend and expect a lot of interaction on Facebook from me, you may be disapointed.
I’ve mostly set it up as a way to reconnect with old school friends that I have lost touch with, but who knows what it will lead to. Facebook seems to be trying hard to innovate and stay ahead of the curve, and from that perspective it’s worth keeping a presence there to see what they do… but I don’t think Facebook is really my thing, I’m just not into sharing virtual drinks and doing movie quizzes and little widget games.

Those are the two I’ll share for now, I’ve dabbled with a couple of others which I’ll probably talk about next week. As always though, the best way to connect with me is still via Twitter, you can follow my Twitter profile here.
